Early Communities in America
Native Americans formed the first communities in America.
About 400 years ago, new people came from other lands.
They too built communities in North America.
Native Americans were the first people to live in what is now the United States. Native American cultures were shaped by their environment. Native American people also shaped their environment to fit their needs. For thousands of years, Native Americans were the only people living on this continent. Later other people came to live here.
